810 - Research Proposal Making Sense of Sense-making: Literature Review and Potential Applications for Academic Libraries
Before taking Research and Inquiry, I had never fully experienced scholarly research. This class turned a switch in me that resulted in fervor for the research process itself and for developing simple curiosity into something richly valuable and worthwhile. Experiencing the research process for the first time prepared me to advocate for others who are also new to research. This course also introduced me to Dervin’s (2003) Sense-Making methodology out of which I have explored communication theory in a number of areas within library and information services. In this research proposal I advocate for library staff by exploring how Dervin’s Sense-making methodology could be applied to the intraorganizational structure of libraries and similar applicable tools developed for those who work in libraries
KULSS Organizational Timeline
I have also gained a large breadth of experience advocating for my fellow staff in my capacity as Secretary for a staff governance organization. When I was responsible for maintaining the web page for this group, I created an organizational time line which points to a number of finding aids related to the governance body and the issues of concern to those for whom it advocates.
