812 - Client Information Needs Assessment
819 - Information Literacy and the MLS
I feel fortunate to have had the depth of theory and application offered by 812 which focused quite extensively on the essential tools of information retrieval. From understanding the concepts of Boolean searching to formulating the information need into an effective search strategy, this is where my foundation for information seeking was developed. These skills were further developed throughout other courses in the program, in particular, the advanced information seeking and repackaging coursework for 819. The audience for this project was unique in that it was a real client working in the library profession who was unknown to me. The research focused on information literacy instruction in MLS programs. My work on this project coincided with my own participation in a course on information literacy instruction. This proved useful in the task of identifying information literacy programs and more deeply in understanding the importance of such courses to future librarians.
