Explain
and apply interdisciplinary theories and models relevant
to managing library and information service agencies.
to managing library and information service agencies.
These two artifacts represent very different presentations of library and information service theories. The first, from 803, was an essay explaining one of the stages of information transfer. The second artifact from 802 was a project in application of a number of theories related to information seeking and the reference interview.
803 - Diffusion from the perspective of tacit knowledge
I chose to examine diffusion, using tacit knowledge to explain how such knowledge functions within the social context of work organizations. While I didn’t know this at the time, this essay sparked my interest in organizational communication that I would later research in 810 and that I continue to explore within my own work environment.
802 - FMLA : Uncovering the Rules
In this exercise I not only explained each theory, but also applied these theories in the context of a real information need through interviewing, developing an information need assessment, and repacking the information for the client. This artifact also serves as another example of my study of organizational communication. I have further explored the service model of Gutek & Welsh (2000) applying it within my work organization through development training on service quality.
